TLI-logoOn Saturday, January 23 a record-breaking number of attendees participated in the District 10 Spring Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) held at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Independence. Promoted as “not your typical TLI,” the training attracted over 250 participants, most of whom were club officers completing the second half-year officer training requirement for the Distinguished Club Program (DCP).

“We decided to take a different approach to the spring TLI this year,” said District 10 Program Quality Director Dave Wiley. “Most officers learn how to fulfill their officer duties through the fall training. We wanted to give them something different – but just as useful – this time around.”

The program began with a general session attended by all registrants. Topics included a review of the DCP, an update about the revised education program, details about using Meet Up to attract new members (in particular Millennials), an introduction to a newly-forming advanced club focused on career management, and marketing tips that club officers can use to promote their club.

Following the general session, two breakout sessions were held concurrently. One focused on the responsibilities of an area or division governor, and the other on conducting successful club contests. The half-day program, which included breakfast, concluded shortly after noon.

Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. Comments included, “Keep the format!” “Innovative!” and “Excellent!”

Club officers who missed the TLI or who would like second-round training focused on their officer can attend one of five make-up training sessions offered by division directors. Training must be completed by February 29, 2016. Officers may attend training anywhere within the District. There is no cost to attend training.

Here are the dates of the three remaining make-up sessions:
