Sandra E Orland
Club Growth Director Nominee
It is an honor and privilege to be a candidate for 2021-2022 District 10 Club Growth Director position. Serving as District 10 Public Relations Manager for 2020-2021, I had the opportunity of working closely with the Trio and with the Top 7 on public relations interests and district efforts. I was able to reshape our weekly communications during the challenging times of the pandemic and strive to keep spirits elevated. I was also able to, through the vision of our District Director, Alicia Smith-Kirk, DTM, and second data verification of our D10 Data Analyst, Dan Minder, DTM, purchase of the postcards by Finance Manager, April Ware, CC, CL, design and implement our Happy Holiday postcard mailer to all our members in District 10.
I have been a Toastmaster since October 2017 immediately after attending an open house. I served as Area 54 Director in 2019-2020. I also have earned several awards in 2019-2020 year: Triple Crown, Area 54 Visiting Victor Gold, Area 54 Online Ovation, Above and Beyond, and Area Director of the Year. I was also able to assist with the Public Relations team as a Registration Chair in the Fall of 2019 and helped make the digital sign-in form available for online attendance for 2020. I assisted with Toastmasters Leadership Institute planning in 2019 and 2020. During the early days of the pandemic, I joined a team of trainers to help our fellow Toastmasters be comfortable with the Zoom environment and served as Zoom Host for a number of Area, Division and District events. I currently also serve as a Club Coach with one club and working toward my DTM. I have served as President, Vice President of Membership, Vice President of Public Relations, and Sergeant At Arms. I belong to four clubs and actively visit other clubs in and outside of our District. I also had the opportunity to assist Regional District Leader training in both rounds this year as their Zoom Host.
Professionally, I have worked in Information Technology for over 20 years. I am an IT Solution Architect Lead, collaboratively working with a team of business consultants, project managers, other Technical Solution Owners, developers, testers, Inclusive Designers, and other internal groups to bring solutions to internal end users. I have also worked as a Research Associate/IT Specialist in a colon cancer laboratory performing molecular biology and cell culture techniques.
My husband and I have two high school daughters. Together, we enjoy camping and crafting in our multi-purpose craft room. I will soon return to playing trumpet with Patriot Symphonic Band, Rocky River Community Band, and now back to playing safely at St Martin of Tours Church. I also arrange music for additional musicians for my church at special Masses. I have sewn many specialty and musician masks over this time frame. One of my valued sewing projects was designing and sewing my wedding dress. Six months to perfect my design and one month to sew.
There are so many wonderful opportunities await us as we begin to cautiously and safely emerge from the pandemic. The opportunity of virtual and physical presence will provide some challenges to clubs. Together, we will rise above these challenges and listen to our clubs with guidance from Toastmasters International about how we continue to build and support hybrid clubs. The Club Growth Committees are actively being staffed and encourage them to continue the journey into the next year to grow our clubs and membership.
