At the Toastmasters Leadership Institute, there will be three major sessions.  The general schedule of events is listed below.  A timed agenda will be distributed at the door.

Session 1:  Officer Training

The first session will focus on training to help you fulfill your officer role of President, VP Education, VP Membership, VP Public Relations, Secretary, Treasurer and Sergeant at Arms for the next six months of Toastmasters.

REMINDER – Your club must have a minimum of four (4) club officers attend this “second round” Mid-Year training to receive credit towards the Distinguished Club Program.

Session 2:  Training Workshops (5 Choices)

Workshop #1:  District Leadership Setting Realistic Expectations

The workshop will cover becoming a District Leader and achieving success in your leadership role. The various leadership roles will be discussed as well as de facto leadership opportunities that exist within the District.

  • Presented by: Rene’ Smith DTM/ District LGM

Workshop #2:  Moments Of Truth – How To Check Your Club’s Quality

Every club wants to offer the best quality environment for their members, so that everyone can learn and thrive. The best way for a club to analyze themselves is through the Moments Of Truth program. In this session, you will learn about the program, how you can use it to find your club’s strengths, and where you could help improve your club’s quality.

  • Presented by: Doug Thiessen, DTM, PDG

Workshop #3: Whisper in your New Members Ears

Ensure your new members start their training with a solid foundation. This will help your club’s leadership to better orient your new members; preparing them to not only function in the club setting, but also understand the resources available to them through Area, Division and District opportunities.

From new member packets to leadership opportunities this session will prepare your club’s leadership team to focus your new members on receiving their Distinguished Toastmasters Award rather than their Competent Communicator.

Your team will leave this session with samples to create New Members’ Packets, a Toastmasters’ mentoring program and a New Members’ Orientation meeting.

  • Presented by: Michelle Mencke, CC, ALB and Dameka Lee (Nickerson) ACS, ALB

Workshop #4:  Creating a formal mentoring program

Successful Toastmasters know that mentoring is a crucial element in developing skills through the Toastmasters program. Toastmasters International surveyed 2,000 club leaders about their mentoring programs. The results of this study show that 77% of clubs have a mentoring program, but 75% are informal and unstructured. 70% of club leaders want a formal, structured mentoring program. How do you go about developing a formal mentoring program? By the end of this session you will know:

  • Why you should create a formal mentoring program
  • What you need
  • How to structure your program
  • How to set goals (with example goals)
  • How to monitor the program and incorporate feedback
  • Presented by: Tricia Spayer, ACS, ALB

Workshop #5:  If you’re looking for answers, it’s in there, Toastmasters.org

The presentation will be a brief guide to show those attending where to find information, such as officer roles, how to put together a new member’s packet. Pamphlets and marketing tools to bring more people to your clubs, and other tools to help keep you on track and to track your success in Toastmasters

  • Presented by: Eric Jackson ACS, ALS

Session 3:  Spring Contest Judge’s Training

In this final session after the workshops, you will discover how to be an effective judge and contest participant during the International Speech and Evaluation Contests scheduled for the Spring contest season.

  1. Hi,
We had the pleasure of having Maureen Zappala of District 10 attend our District 62 C Division winter Toastmasters Leadership Institute. I want to make sure that her two clubs receive credit for her attendance. She is VP Public Relations at one of her clubs and Club President at a second club.
    Thank you.
