Fairlawn Toastmasters to Compete in Division Speech Contest

FAIRLAWN — Winners in the Fairlawn Toastmasters Club 2803 Humorous Speech and Table Topics contest, held Aug. 15 at the Fairlawn Kiwanis Community Center, are John Niles for the Humorous Speech category and Nancy Secrist for Table Topics category. Both advanced to compete against Toastmasters in the Central Division. Niles and Secrist, pictured at left, are Distinguished Toastmasters (DTM) earning the highest level of educational achievement in the club.

Niles has been a member of Toastmasters since the early 1990s. “Toastmasters has introduced me to some of the finest people in the world whom I would have never met without being part of this splendid organization,” he said. He added he gained confidence and boosted his presentational skills through Toastmasters.

Secrist joined Toastmasters in 1998, served as division governor in 2012-2013 and 2011-2012 and has held various club officer positions. She currently serves as vice president of education.
