My name is Sandra E Orland, DTM. I am honored to be elected as your District Director for the 2023-2024 year. I am filled with excitement, enthusiasm, and a profound sense of responsibility as I embark on this transformative journey alongside all of you. I have served as Program Quality Director, Club Growth Director, Public Relations Manager, and an Area Director in service to District 10 for the last 4 years. I have served all the club officer roles except Treasurer and Secretary. I have been a Toastmaster since October 2017.
We find ourselves at a significant moment in our Toastmasters journey. We are closing one Toastmasters year and starting up a new year. It is a time to reflect on our past accomplishments, acknowledge our challenges, and most importantly, embrace the spirit of renewal. Not one for resolutions, however, I find focusing on one word that embodies the fullness of the District Mission will help focus on “The Main Thing”. This word I revealed at the District Executive Committee Meeting on May 24 was renew. This encapsulates the essence of what lies ahead for us—a fresh start, an opportunity to breathe new life into our clubs, our members, and our district. Renewal is not simply about starting afresh; it is about embracing the potential within ourselves and our District and channeling that energy to achieve greater heights. This upcoming year, I am committed to leading our district with a spirit of renewal, revitalization, and transformation.
Renewal begins with our members. Each of you is a valuable asset, and your growth and development are at the heart of our district’s success. I encourage each member to renew their commitment to personal and professional growth, to stretch beyond their comfort zones, and to seize every opportunity to become the best version of themselves. Let us renew our dedication to lifelong learning, seeking actionable feedback, and continuous improvement.
Renewal is a powerful concept that calls us to action. It asks us to examine our routines, habits, and processes and to ask ourselves, “How can we do better?” It prompts us to step outside our comfort zones, to embrace change, and to seek continuous improvement. Renewal empowers us to let go of what no longer serves us and embrace new possibilities, pushing the boundaries of what we thought was possible.
First, we will renew our dedication to our members—the lifeblood of our organization. Our members are the heart and soul of Toastmasters, and it is our responsibility to empower them to reach their full potential. We will provide comprehensive training opportunities, mentorship programs, and educational resources to support their personal and professional growth. Through workshops, webinars, and interactive sessions, we will help our members develop their communication, leadership, and critical thinking skills. By investing in our members, we invest in the future of our district.
Second, we will renew our commitment to building strong clubs. Clubs are the foundation of Toastmasters, and we will ensure they thrive in partnership with our District Leadership team. We will continue to provide clubs with the tools, guidance, and support they need to create a welcoming, engaging, and supportive environment. We will encourage clubs to focus on member engagement, fostering a sense of belonging, and encouraging collaboration. By nurturing our clubs, we will create a supportive, positive evironment where members can challenge themselves, learn from one another, and thrive in their personal and professional lives.
Furthermore, we will renew our efforts to enhance the Toastmasters experience. We continue to collaborate with club leaders to identify areas where improvements can be made, and we will leverage technology and innovative solutions to streamline processes and enhan’ce communication within the district. By embracing new tools and methodologies, we will create a dynamic and forward-thinking district that is responsive to the evolving needs of our members.
Lastly, we will renew our focus on making a positive impact in our communities. Toastmasters has the power to transform lives, and it is our duty to share this gift with the world. We will promote Toastmasters to the wider community, forging partnerships with organizations, schools, and businesses. We will demonstrate the value of effective communication and leadership skills and showcase the profound impact Toastmasters can have on personal and professional development. Through outreach initiatives, community service projects, and impactful events, we will not only raise awareness about Toastmasters but also create opportunities for individuals from all walks of life to discover their true potential.
Renewal also calls for increased collaboration and communication. I urge all members and club leaders to engage in open dialogue, share ideas, and learn from one another. By fostering a culture of collaboration, we can amplify our collective impact and create an environment where everyone feels heard and valued. While saddened by the loss of clubs this past years, we are inspired by projected growth and member investment. By collaborating with District Leaders, clubs, and members, together, we can make a positive impact. Just as musicians rely on the ensemble to play their parts within their instrumentation to make music, so do we, together, ensure all roles are filled to contribute to greater success. All parts and roles are important to achieve
Beyond our clubs, we have a responsibility to renew our commitment to community engagement. Toastmasters have the power to positively impact lives beyond our meeting rooms. Let us renew our dedication to serving others, be it through outreach programs, partnerships with local organizations, or initiatives that promote the benefits of effective communication and leadership in the broader community. Together, we can make a lasting difference.
In closing, I am filled with optimism and excitement for the year ahead. District 10’s journey of renewal starts now, and I invite each of you to join me on this transformative path. Together, we will renew our commitment to personal growth, revitalize our clubs, foster collaboration, and positively impact our communities.
I firmly believe that by embracing one word, renew, and staying true to the District Mission – “We build new clubs and support all clubs in achieving excellence”, we will unlock the full potential of District 10 Toastmaster members. Let us embark on this journey together, with passion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to excellence with an outcome of achieving Distinguished status.
Let the year of renewal begin!
