On Saturday, October 24, over 160 Toastmasters and guests enjoyed a day of Toastmasters education and training sessions, networking opportunities, food and fun.
“Attendance was the best in several years,” said Club Quality Director Dave Wiley. He attributes the high turnout to the roster of speakers, including morning keynote and special guest International Director Ross Mackay, who spoke about leadership qualities, and World Champion of Public Speaking Ed Tate. Tate’s post-lunch keynote provided tips for finding speech topics in everyday occurrences – and delivered lots of laughs.
Six hard-hitting local speakers – Tom Lilly, Dennis Deegan, Margie Greco, Maureen Zappala, Pete Punwani, and Ramona Smith – presented informative and well-attended sessions focused on developing public speaking and leadership skills.
Immediate Past District Governor Tony Green recognized several Toastmasters for their exemplary leadership and service during the 2014-2015 Toastmaster year. They included Toastmaster of the Year Pete Punwani, Division Governor of the Year Vicky Nann, and Area Governor of the Year Janet Wasserman.
District Governor Award recipients were John Betterson, Debora Curtis, Laura Dressler, Margree Foster, Deonna Moore Taylor, Mica Roe, and Dave Wiley.
The conference wrapped up with the District 10 Fall Speech contest, the culmination of competition that began at the club level in August. Congratulations to Humorous Speech Contest winner Ed Haller (Executive Club) and Table Topics Contest winner Theresa Bratton (Cleveland Club).
“Thanks to the dozens of volunteers, this contest was a success,” said District Director Jenilee Taylor. “Our conference chairs, Tess Norvell and Felita Grice, did a wonderful job organizing the event,” added Club Growth Director Tim Juda.
The Toastmasters spring conference will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016.
